About Us
East Murray, a small rural R-12 school, is situated in the Murray Mallee region between Loxton and Karoonda. Current enrolments stand at 53 students, although numbers have declined over the last 5 years, with very few new students entering the school. In 2009, over half of the student population are in years 7 to 10. But while senior secondary enrolments are inherently small, the school prides itself on offering a rich SACE program, supported by a number of VET and community-based options.
East Murray Area School is the hub of the East Murray community, acting as a community centre and home for a range of community groups. Staff at the school make every effort to address the disadvantage associated with isolation and work collaboratively to ensure that East Murray students have access to a range of educational and cultural experiences.
During 2008, the purpose and vision of the school was clarified through a collaborative evaluation process, with the three core values of Quality, Integrity and Respect upheld as the piliars of our ethos. In recent times, vertical homegroups assigned whole-school responsibilities and an integrated middle-school curriculum have been piloted in an attempt to further promote the development of positive relationships and authentic student learning.
